What Turnitin Draft Coach does

Draft Coach is meant for the drafting stage, not the final academic integrity review. In supported school accounts, it can help you inspect similarity matches, improve citations, and catch grammar issues while writing in Google Docs or Microsoft Word online.

That is a useful workflow because students often discover problems too late: after the final LMS submission, when the instructor already has the report. Draft Coach moves part of that review earlier.

Who can access Turnitin Draft Coach?

Access normally depends on your school. If your university or college has licensed Draft Coach and enabled it for students, you may see it in the writing environment your school supports. If it is not enabled, you usually cannot sign up as an individual student and turn it on yourself.

Draft Coach vs a normal Turnitin report

Draft Coach and the normal instructor report solve different problems:

• Draft Coach: helps you revise while drafting, mainly around similarity, citations, and grammar.
• Turnitin Similarity Report: shows the final matching sources, match groups, and highlighted overlap your instructor reviews.
• Turnitin AI Writing Report: estimates whether text reads as AI-generated or AI-paraphrased.

Does Draft Coach include AI detection?

Do not assume Draft Coach gives the same AI score your instructor sees. The student drafting workflow is not the same thing as the instructor AI Writing Report. If AI risk matters for a paper, treat Draft Coach as only one part of the review.

If your school has Draft Coach, use it this way

The best use is early and boring: check one complete draft, fix the obvious citation and quotation issues, then check again only if your school allows it. Do not wait until the hour before the deadline.

• Open every matched source, not just the headline percentage.
• Shorten long quotes and cite the original source clearly.
• Rewrite copied structure in your own argument, not just new words.
• Keep version history so you can show how the paper developed.

If you do not have Draft Coach
